It is required for optimal T cell regulation and homeostasis. Persistent antigen stimulation in malignancy or chronic infection induces chronic LAG3 expression, which promotes T cell fatigue. LAG3 is an immunological checkpoint receptor, and as such, it is the focus of numerous drug research initiatives aimed at developing new treatments for cancer and autoimmune diseases. It is also being researched in soluble form as a cancer treatment on its own. |
